Wastewater Management Services Information For All

Private companies are for the most part in charge of Wastewater Management Services

and work to ensure that both industry and domestic housing are serviced. Waste treatment removes toxic particles from the sewage water and leaves two components, a wet stream and a sludge element, both of which need additional treating before release back into nature.

Sewage comes from many different sources, businesses and offices buildings, commercial zones and industry, as well as domestic properties. The waste sources can also include liquid contaminants, both organic and inorganic from industrial processes.

The treatment process involves a number of stages, from pre-treatment, through screening and grit removal, to primary and secondary treatment stages and finally tertiary treatment and disinfection. These processes are followed by the cleaned waste water being re-introduced to the environment.

Pre treatment uses two key was to strain the incoming sewerage. The first is to pass the waste through a series of screens of varying size, mechanically raking through the sludge to remove large objects. The second involves passing the waste through grit or sand to trap out finer particles, thereby protecting machinery in subsequent phases.

The next, or primary phase of treatment employs the use of large sedimentation tanks to allow the pretreated sludge to settle and let greasy or oily residues to float onto the top to be skimmed away. At the bottom of the tank, scrapers continually pull degreased sewage into a container for pumping into phase two.

An active organic process is needed to take biological complexes away from the influent waste water. This can be one or both of two different systems, such as the fixed film system which passes the sewage over a layer of biomass material, or a suspended growth system which mixes the active biomass in with the sludge.

Tertiary processes take a little more time to enact and take the waste water through a series of sand filtration devices to remove hanging particles, followed by standing in a lagoon to biologically improve the water quality via algal activity and then movement through a manufactured reedbed to further raise the effluent quality. These phases bring the sewage closer to being able to be soaked away into the ground water, or dispersed into the sea directly or via rivers and lakes.

Much work has to be done in this phase to prevent eutrophication (the build up of plant matter nutrients), as the resultant waste water can have very large amounts of phosphorous and nitrogen in. These chemicals can build and lead to blooms of algae, upsetting the balance of natural ecology and releasing altogether different toxic material.

The final stage by wasterwater management services before environmental dispersal is to control the odour and disinfect the influent. This is to ensure all micro organisms have been dealt with and any obnoxious gases have been metabolized completely.
