Watch Dad And Discover Great Gift Ideas

Fathers day is drawing near, and it always reminds me of a time when I struggled when it came to gifting my Dad

. For the longest time I had no idea what to get my father for fathers day. I always wondered what do you get a man who has everything. Every year I struggled to find something anything I thought he might be interested in.

Resolving to get my Dad a gift he really wanted, I decided that I needed to get to know my father better. I mean I realized that part of my problem was that I had taken my Dad for granted and I didn't know him as well as I should. It didn't take long for me to realize that his favorite past time, golf, made a perfect place for me to research a bit to find loads of great gift ideas. I've never gotten into golf but even I knew that things like golf balls and golf towels are things that can get expensive and need regular replacing. Obviously these became top gift ideas.

The first time I gave my Dad a golf gift for father's day, his eyes sparkled and he gave me a big, toothy grin that showed me I had really gotten it 'right'. I was excited and relieved and knew I was really onto something. For several years I gave my dad golf gifts for father's day but after about five years, I felt like the golf theme was getting a bit old.

So the next year, I surfed the Internet to get a new crop of ideas. Of course the only problem with that approach is that I got too many ideas. But reviews from other golfers did give me some fresh ideas for Dad that let me get by a few more years. And then, it was time to dig deeper to discover what my Dad needed next

Over time, I noticed my Dad was playing less golf. And I felt a bit burned out giving him a golf themed gift each year. But looking closely at where he was spending time showed me that my Dad's new hobby was restoring old cars. This was a whole new universe of potential gifts. When surfing the Internet, I found a chrome polish and restorer product that was getting great reviews. So I got that for my Dad who loved it.

The next year's father's day, I got a bit more adventuresome and got my Dad an official Chrysler key fob for his keys. This was a gift he really liked because he was then into restoring old 'MOPAR' cars (that's what they call old Chryslers) and I noticed just the other day that he still uses that same old key chain years later. What I learned is that once you look at your Dad just like a friend and get to know him, you'll end up with plenty of great ideas on what to get him for fathers day (or any other gift event).
