TheWashington Capitals might be relieved to face theNew York Islanders -- or nearly any other team, for that matter. Visits to Nassau Coliseum, however, have been much tougher than expected for opponents recently.

Coming off another rout at the hands of a New York-based team, the Capitals look to rebound by continuing their dominance of the Islanders in the opener of a home-and-home set Saturday night.

Washington (32-20-10) felt it had momentum after winning three of four on the road, but that success proved fleeting after a 6-0 home loss to theNew York Rangers on Friday. It was the Capitals' most lopsided defeat since Dec. 12, when they lost 7-0 on the road to the Rangers.

"I'm not happy. Our fans deserve better," coach Bruce Boudreau said. "We deserve to get booed. It's just not acceptable and it's embarrassing."

The Capitals, outscored 12-1 during a three-game home slide, might be thrilled to have consecutive games against the last-place Islanders (23-31-8). The teams will meet again Tuesday in Washington.

The Capitals are 9-0-1 in the last 10 meetings with New York, winning five in a row on Long Island after a 2-1 victory on Jan. 20.

The Islanders, though, have won four of six at home after following a 3-0 victory over Los Angeles last Saturday before beating Florida 5-1 two nights later.

However, they've dropped consecutive one-goal games on the road since, including 4-3 in overtime to Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia on Thursday.Matt Martin forced the extra session by scoring his second goal of the game with 27.2 seconds remaining, but didn't take much solace from it.

"I wouldn't say it's a moral victory," said Martin, who has four goals this season and is one of three Islanders with over 100 penalty minutes. "We really wanted to come in here and get the two points. It's unfortunate, but like I said, we battled hard and found a way to get a point."

The Islanders haven't managed to get two points at home against Washington since a 3-2 win on Dec. 22, 2007. Snapping that skid would also equal New York's season-high three-game home winning streak from Dec. 22-29.
