Water Fountains: Functions, Types And Benefits
Water fountains exemplify a stand out element that sets them apart from the rest of water features
. Fountains are often acknowledged for their ability to induce serenity in the surroundings where they are situated. They can simply serve as interior or exterior decors, or simply as bird hang outs in the form of a flowing birdbaths. Regardless of their varying functions and structures, the only thing that matters the most is that they would be used and innovated for more years to come.
From as far back as 3000 BC fountains have frequently appeared throughout history. In ancient Egypt, the use of these water features were documented through their tomb paintings, while in early Persian history they were utilized to symbolically represent paradise. Romans and Greeks on the other hand used both wall fountain and floor fountain as public bath areas and drinking stations and in China, where extensive courtyards were built, fountain sculptures were assigned as decorations. In this regard, it cannot be denied that fountains play a significant role in the development of ancient civilizations as they become the most important sources of water to cultivate their lands and where people usually get their fill of drinking water.
Water fountains work through gravitational force, and such power could be achieved with the help of three important parts""reservoir, pump and fountain head. All fountains have reservoirs from which water is drawn and flows back at. It is the pump that moves the water; its spinning impeller runs in an accelerated speed producing centrifugal force that forces the water out of the pump. The water then goes to the fountain head and is sprinkled through the nozzle, cascades outside of the fountain and flows back into the reservoir.
There are various types of fountains that could either be used indoor or outdoor, or for residential or commercial purposes. The smallest of them are known as tabletop fountains are used on tabletops. A floor fountain is a freestanding feature often used as a statement feature in place of sculptures both for indoor and outdoor areas. Wall fountains, as their name connotes, are wall-mounted pieces. Meanwhile, garden fountains are large water pieces usually placed in wide outdoor spaces like piazzas or courtyard and are often in the forms of sculpted topiary and series of connected pools.
Using a fountain has many known health and wellness benefits. For instance, an indoor wall fountain, aside from being a decorative feature, could also become an important source of pleasure for those who sees it. The smooth and soothing flow of water from the fountain could easily reduce stress and provide comfort and relaxation, making such water feature a great addition for homes in urban spaces. Similarly, these water features have the ability to humidify and add moisture to rooms, which sanitizes the air you breath and in some instances also function as sources of drinking water for pets.
Overall, water fountains are well-known features that never go out of style as they are often innovated and improved. From the ancient times to date, they emerged probably as one of the most important man-made structures. Likewise, their various purposes make these pieces one of the most multifunctional articles of accents. It is not at all surprising that these water features are often used both in commercial and residential spaces.
