Water leaks can occur in any part of your house. Mostly the water lines that runs to your home is metered for liability purpose or billing. So a leak on your line can be very expensive. A very small leak can be detected by using some simple procedures.

Here are a few steps by which you can detect any sort of water leaks in any part of your house:

1.You can test the line running from the meter to your home. It can be difficult but this may help you in saving your money. You can temporarily turn off the main valve and then check the meter by removing the cover and checking the dial on the top of meter. Sometimes you could not find the head of meter, in such cases dig around to check whether there is any dirt or grass on the top of the meter. As soon as you locate it, close the main valve if it's not. Now check the meter to see if it's turning or not. If it does so, then the leak is amid them. You can then look for symptoms of leak like muddy areas, or you can check the grass that is greener than the rest of the portion or growing faster. This can give you an indication of the location or spot of leak.


2.You can check your bathrooms for detecting leaks. Check the toilets by taking out the top off the tank and then hearing very strongly. If you hear any type of hiss or noise, try to find out its origin. Once you locate it, evaluate it and check whether you can fix it or not. Another way is to add food coloring plus a couple of drops in the tank. Wait and see if there is any coloring in the bowl. If the result is positive, it surely indicates the presence of leak. The leak will be at the bottom of the tank that is allowing the water to dribble through.

3.Leaks can occur in swimming pools. So check for leaks in them also if you have one in your house. For leaks, you can also check the head of the shower. The repair can be very simple if you detect a leak in them.
