One of the other ways to make money with scavenging is collecting up scrap metals for recycling as well. Copper is becoming more valuable, and old pennies made before 1983 are worth more than one cent due to their copper melt value. Steel, aluminum, and even iron can all be turned into a recycle center and paid out by the pound. If you have any old building materials sitting around that have metal parts, scrap it and get that cash right away.

Becoming someone who is good at scavenging may not make you rich, but it is one of the ways to make money that might keep you afloat during a time of crisis, or just get you that few extra bucks you need to pull you through that rocky moment in your financial life. When you are hungry, ten dollars at the grocery store can buy you enough to sustain, or get your car to work and back another few days. It is a better alternative than doing nothing.
