Weddings Abroad Are Booming Business
As revealed by an article published by Anne Sheridan for the Limerick Leader
, the business of weddings abroad or at home has never stopped growing. Staying true to what the popular saying states that two things never go out of fashion regardless of the economic background; funerals and weddings never decline in popularity or ocurrence.
The publication for the online Irish newspaper stated that wedding businesses are one of the busiest in Ireland and recent figrues from the Central Statistics Office showed that over 1000 weddings were registered in the city of Limerick in 2008, the most recent figures available.
But it's not just the Irish that show a passion for everything wedding-related and attending funerals, as the rest of the UK has joined in the wedding craze this year (especially so after the royal wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge) and moare and more couples are looking at getting married abroad or at home.
The market for destination weddings has taken the wedding industry by storm over the last few years and increasingly, more and more couples are looking at celebrating their nuptials overseas. For Irish couples in particular, as Sheridan reveals, weddings abroad might pose a chance to forego the hassle of big traditional Irisih weddings for 200-plus guests and enjoy a more intimate, smaller affair. While others, one the other hand, opt for destination weddings simply to escape the gloomy and unpredictable Irish weather and enjoy an extended break under the sun, in exotic beach destinations.
Accordint to Sheridan the Creation Travel on Cecil Street company, has experienced a rise in demand for weddings abroad in recent years, despite a small drop this year in comparison to 2010. Popular hotspots for overseas weddings include Rome, Sorrento, Malta and Lanzarote in Eurpoe, with honeymoons in Mauritius, Mexico and the Seychelles, amongst the most coveted.
Mary Conway, an agent with Creation Travel, said the size of the wedding entourage they cater for rarely rises above 90 guests, and generally people have chosen smaller groups to 30 to 50 when planning a wedding abroad. Is it worth breaking with the norm? Well, a bride came back to me recently and I asked her if the wedding was everything she wanted. She said It was everything I wanted and more. Then you have exotic locations for honeymoons, with a long stay in the Maldives, costing anything up to 6,000 with many Maldives wedding packages including the ceremony and the honeymoon all in one and coming at a incredibly cheaper price than most weddings at home.
But the question remaining is: when it comes to weddins; is bigger necessarily better? Whatever the allure of big ceremonies may be, many couples are choosing something different, especially in a time of economic crisis when weddings abroad come at a much affordable price and in most cases include a long honeymoon in an exotic, sunny location.
