Our global weight problem is now affecting children of pre-school age and is of concern
to health organizations everywhere as there is also an increase in health problems that more frequently occur in overweight people. In order to lose those excess pounds, many people resort to surgery whereas other people realize that a healthy diet with regular exercise is a better method. Another group prefers the use of weight loss drugs to aid them in losing weight so that results can be seen more quickly.
These drugs usually work buy telling the brain it's no longer hungry, stimulating metabolism to aid the shedding of excess fat. The problem arose when it was found that one of the side effects from this type of drug was the increased risk of heart valve disease and of course the drug was quickly withdrawn from use. Of course the manufacturers did not give up that easily and new drugs were created, these drugs are still being prescribed even though the Federal Drug Administration has not yet approved them.
The use of drugs that help weight reduction has become so commonplace that it is almost certain that you know of someone who has tried them. It is a tempting proposition, to lose weight while still maintaining the same diet; who would say no? Many millions of dollars are spent each year in The United States alone while the drug manufacturers spend huge sums on further research into weight loss drugs.
Weight control pills can be purchased either over-the-counter or prescribed by a doctor but even with the advances in medical technology they can still cause a lot of health related problems which can be unpleasant such as diarrhoea and vomiting. There are many factors that could contribute to any problems you experience and these do not necessarily stop when you cease taking the pills. These effects can be equally unpleasant as the side effects occurring as a result of taking weight control pills.
While the effectiveness of these weight loss drugs is not in question, they are more effective if they are used alongside a controlled diet and exercise regime.~Despite all the bad publicity, weight loss drugs do work but they are more successful if they are used in conjunction with a low calorie diet and regular exercise, preferably using a properly worked out exercise regime. A diet that is full of foods such as oats, rice, cereals, potatoes, vegetables and fruits contain a good supply of vitamins, minerals and essential fibre.
Of course this should always be combined with a good exercise routine which will use up excess calories and provide a good all round fitness workout. A good exercise plan with the use of weights will help improve the body's ability to burn off the calories and maintain a healthy heart.
