, regulations, and even its own language. In order to use computers, you don't need to know this language or even all of the computer terms, but knowing the basics can be really helpful. Those that aren't familiar with computer terms may need some help understanding them.

This article will be discussing the WEP key, which stands for Wired Equivalent Privacy. If you're not sure what this is, that's perfectly okay. It's a pretty basic concept that most anyone will be able to grasp.

A WEP key is a set of numbers and letters that made up a type of code. This code is needed in order to set up your wireless network. When first linking into it or first setting it up, you will be required to enter a default WEP key. Later, you can change this key but make sure you remember what it is.

A WEP key is used mostly in wireless routers and other network devices. The reason they even have this WEP key is for added security. It allows encoded messages to be sent through the network without being able to be seen by those outside the network.

Each router comes with a default WEP key address. You can leave the WEP key as the default one or you can change it to your own. You should only need to enter it in when you first set it up and when you reset it.

If you end up forgetting what your WEP key is there are a couple things that you should do. You can always contact the company and get it reset, but this may cost you some money. You should first look everywhere you can think of for the key. Look on the original box and in the manual.

There should be a router IP address that you can log into. The user name and password will be defaulted to something very general such as admin or password. Once you're logged in, you will be able to see your WEP key.

A WEP address isn't normally thought of very often. It's hardly ever used and easy to forget. Make sure you know what yours is so you don't have to go digging around to find it. Also make sure you understand what it actually is and what it provides for your network.
