Cities which have a long and colourful history invariably offer plenty to delight the tourists. From modern sights to historical ones, they can introduce you to all the sides and facets of their characters. Geneva is no exception to this. If you are thinking of visiting this part of Switzerland in the near future you can expect plenty of attractions and sights to see while you are there. For starters you have the advantage of being able to see Lake Geneva. Not only does this provide a stunning counterpoint to the city itself, it also offers the chance to go on a boat trip to see the city from another viewpoint altogether. Back on dry land you could do no better than to begin your exploration of Geneva by visiting the Cathedral St Pierre. This translates as you might guess into the Cathedral of Saint Peter, and it is one of the most popular attractions in the entire city. The existing building was built back in the middle of the 12thth century, and it took 150 years to complete it. What else can you discover in Geneva a city with a long and dramatic history? If you know anything at all about the city you will no doubt have heard of its Reformation Wall. This is a relatively new addition to the city, having been built in 1909. As you can see it is a baby compared to the Cathedral of Saint Peter. It is no less interesting for this however, and it can be found in the Parc des Bastions. The wall is more than 300 hundred feet long in total, and along its length you will find four of the most famous reformers of all in Geneva. Each of these statues are 15 feet high, so you will need to stand back to get good photos of them! Another more unusual sight is the Flower Clock, which you will find in the Jardin Anglais. This translates into the English Garden. The clock is a working one and it really is made of flowers. To give you an idea of the sheer scale of the clock, the second hand is over two and a half metres long. Thousands of flowers are planted out to make the clock look stunning all year round. There are plenty more sights to see in Geneva during your stay, including the many parks and green spaces you will find here. Flights to Geneva are also very easy to book, so you could be on your way to one of the most entertaining and lively parts of Switzerland sooner than you think. After all, where else could you see such a large clock and delve into a history that stretches back centuries?About the Author:
