What Are Helicopter Couriers?

When most people think of courier companies, they think of vans

, maybe of bicycle messengers, or even of larger trucking companies. The truth is though, that just about any vehicle which can be used to get a person from one place to another is part of the larger delivery services industry. One such vehicle is the helicopter, which is certainly a part of this industry. In fact, it is a much larger part of this industry than many people realize.

Helicopters are used by all different types of delivery companies to make special deliveries. There are many courier companies that actually have helicopters as part of their in house fleet. Those companies which are too small or who do not have the funds to helicopters and pilots on staff will still often have a relationship with a local helicopter company. Most good courier companies can find you a helicopter shipping solution if that is indeed what you require.

So who uses helicopter couriers? Ideally, the helicopter is used for shipping goods which need to be transported either extremely quickly, or to locations which would otherwise be hard to reach. They are also usually reserved for small to midsize goods, as it can be difficult to ship overly large cargo on a helicopter.

Helicopter couriers are not used in an isolated pocket. Industries of all kinds make use of them every day. Large corporations will use helicopters to move extremely time sensitive documents, for example, when they are executing a large deal. Helicopters might be used to make time critical parts or supply deliveries when different types of companies experience production problems. They are used often in the oil industry to deliver supplies too hard to reach places like off shore drilling rigs. Probably one of the most common uses of helicopters is to make medical deliveries.

Helicopters are used a great deal in the medical industry in general. They are used both to transport people into hospitals, and to bring emergency supplies to those same hospitals. This is why some hospitals have built their own helicopter pads on their sites. Usually, if a helicopter is being used it represents a delivery that is the highest priority. A good example of this is when an organ has to be transferred from one hospital to another for a transplant surgery. When covering shorter distances, a helicopter is often going to be the preferred vehicle for this type of shipment.
