What Are The Most Common Causes Of Large Truck Accidents Important Info

One of the most common causes of large truck accidents is the driver is traveling

at too fast a speed and cannot stop or maneuver the truck fast enough to avoid an accident. Large trucks can weigh over 10,000 pounds. If a truck of this size is traveling at a high rate of speed and something happens that requires traffic in front of him/her to stop suddenly, sometimes there is no way for the truck to stop in time to avoid an accident.

You have to think of how long it would take a car to stop when traveling at a high speed. Now think of a truck that weighs 10 or 20 times as much as a car trying to stop. The brakes on these trucks are simply not capable of working that quickly. When large trucks are involved in accidents, this is one of the main causes.

Equipment malfunctions are another reason for large truck accidents. It can be very expensive to maintain a fleet of large trucks and some companies may cut back on these expenses by delaying necessary repairs. This later is the cause of a serious accident. Sometimes a trucking company will hire workers that are not experienced enough with the trucks and/or driving conditions they are in. To reduce costs the companies may delay or avoid giving their workers proper training in how to operate the trucks.

For some long distance drivers, fatigue can be a factor in causing large truck accidents. Many drivers are under the gun to reach their unloading destination and they don't get enough sleep. They may make only a minor error in judgment that causes an accident. Fatigue is probably one of the most common causes of accidents for cross country truck drivers.

Lack of attention to their driving is another common cause for large truck accidents. Maybe the driver is talking on a cell phone. They may be doing other things that take their focus off their driving and in a split second they make a serious mistake. We have talked about some of the main causes for large truck accidents caused by the truck driver. Many times, drivers in passenger cars cause these accidents for some very similar reasons.
