Mrs. Anand waved out to her two children running to catch the school bus, their bags loaded with books and their hands full with a model of a volcano that was made the previous night. According to her, any portion of the syllabus that the teacher aimed at finishing, but could not finish in class, was assigned as homework. While one school of thought felt that homework was an utter waste of time, another school of thought felt it promoted responsibility. Today however, the parents and tutors do most of the homework, while the children just get stressed.

In a survey, it was observed that homework benefitted students below high school, while there was a small impact between homework and test scores at the high school. A student's academic achievement does not in any way relate to the homework done and more so, the fact that homework builds up character was also a myth. A Research shows that homework is good for children because it boosts learning and teaches a child to become responsible.

A school in the US nicknamed its homework Homelinks' because the kindergarten teacher felt, homework could actually bring the teaching fraternity and family together if it was assigned properly and applied the characteristics given below:

1. Takes 20 minutes to do

2. Related to concepts being taught in class

3. Was completed without parental intervention

4. Was supervised by parents or guardian
