What Does It Take To Be A Successful Freelancer?
Freelancers who do article writing need good communication skills. Instructions that are not understood clearly will mean the failure of the assignment. This would mean that any attempts made to complete the work would not be acceptable by either the writer or the client.
The client is assuming that he will be able to utilize the services of a freelance writer for his assignment. The client then discovers that the project is not completed as he thought it would be and the freelancer ends up losing the job with no compensation.
If the writer had been more intent on identifying the objectives of the project this need not have happened.
Here is a plan of action that should help to lead you to a successful conclusion for your next writing project.
Step 1
Ask the client to be specific about what the job is. Is he asking for article directory material or does he want a landing page for example.
One you fully understand the end use of the work then you will know how to complete it.
This is what gives your client an overall picture of your work and how happy he is with it.
Step 2
Keep in mind that your client is not the professional writer, and you are, therefore the client may not understand the writing terminology.
Its possible that your client could be asking your for a seo article when he wants an article for a directory. Professional writing maybe a new world for your client and he honestly doesn't know what to ask for to meet his writing objectives.
You can save yourself a lot of time and trouble by figuring out what your customer wants.
Some clients don't feel that they have to explain themselves and that you will just automatically know it. Some clients have a little bit of an idea of what they want in their content.
Many clients don't feel they have the talent to do writing that meets professional standards. As a result they rely on professional writers.
Step 3
It is nerve wracking when you complete your project and the client rejects it.
Many clients will totally change their mind from their original expectations after seeing the completed work.
Although there is nothing you can do to stop this from happening on occasion you can prevent it most of the time. It simply means totally understanding your clients wants before starting the work.
Encourage your client to talk about his expectations from the written work
You are going to have a good idea of what your finished piece has to accomplish so you can write it accordingly.
Step 4
If you are writing lots of articles for the same client, make sure you send the first one in for approval. Don't start the rest of the articles until you have done the revisions on the first one and have it approved.
Make sure you stay consistent with your writing style once it has been approved through the entirety of the project. Although these are four very simple instructions they are powerful in that they can make all the difference in you completing the project to your clients satisfaction.
Successfully completing the project for the client means he has a writer that he can rely on for his writing needs.About the Author:
