What Does Stress Have to do With Cheating?

Stress and cheating go hand in hand in a way that most people are shocked and amazed to discover

. It's true. Stress in a marriage, at work, over money, and in life can be the trigger that leads to a cheating husband or wife. So, what does stress have to do with cheating? Find out below.

These are some of the things that stress causes that may ultimately lead to cheating.

1) Withdrawal or Explosion. Some people have violent outbursts when they are stressed out. Others withdraw into themselves. A marriage is a partnership. It takes two people working together to make it work. When one person is an emotional powder keg and the other is completely vacant it creates an atmosphere that is ripe for someone else to swoop in and fill the roles that are being neglected by the stressed out partner in the marriage.

2) The Great Escape. The escape factor can play a huge role when it comes to stress and cheating. Many people who are suffering from stress are desperate to find ways to escape the grind or whatever it is that causes them stress. If the stress is marital then the other man or woman represents freedom from whatever trait, characteristic, or flaw that is causing the stress at home. Because your spouse isn't living with that other person daily the fantasy model of perfection or near-perfection holds.

3) Greener Grass Syndrome. Have you ever noticed how when you're stressed out it seems that everyone else in the world has it better? They (oh yes the infamous they) must have been born under a lucky star. They must have everything they want and more. Envy itself can lead to a lot of stress for the average relationship. When you see someone else that seems to have it better, the stress can be overwhelming and you just want what that person has. Sometimes, it's the husband or wife of that person that you feel must be perfect and you set out to have that piece of perfection for yourself without even realizing what you're doing. More often than not you realize the grass really isn't greener on the other side. Unfortunately by then, there is a lot of damage to try to undo.

As you can see, stress has an awful lot to do with cheating. If you sense that stress is creeping into your marriage, it's time to take action now so that it doesn't lead down the path to cheating.
