What Happens If My Cod Delivery Is Refused?
Many companies have come to the conclusion that there may be something to gain by opting for a COD shipping model
. This is a time proven strategy that can lead to increased client recruitment, and something that many people are eager to try. Many people wonder though, what will happen if their Chicago courier service goes to make their delivery and their COD shipment is refused.
This is because if you ship anything COD (collect on delivery) the customer has certain rights which are legally guaranteed to them. The foremost among these is that they always have the right to refuse to accept any shipment that is sent to them in this matter. This means that if they choose, they will not pay for the shipment and it will be returned to you.
This is something that was put in place in order to protect the customer. That is because the danger was that companies would ship inferior products to customers, misrepresent their products, or that customers would be required to pay for something that had become damaged in shipping. When they have the right of refusal under all situations it ensures that they do not have to pay for anything that they should not have to. Without this protection, no customer would be foolish enough to ship COD.
The problem is that they won't always refuse for a reason this logical. If your shipment is refused the courier will return the package back to you. However, you are going to have to pay for the shipping of the package in two directions. The shipping to the client and a fee to return the shipment back to you will both be your responsibility.
You shouldn't look at this as a reason to dissuade yourself from shipping on a COD basis though. That is because COD shipping is an excellent way to gain the trust of your customers, and it is also a great way to evaluate the effectiveness of your own company. Most people find that if they are conducting their business in an upfront and honest way, they will actually have a very low rate of COD refusal. If your company is shipping COD and seeing a higher rate of refusal, it may be an opportunity to re-examine your business practices and ask yourself what is causing that higher amount of refusal. This can help you improve your entire company's operations.
