What Is A San Diego Cerec Specialist?
A San Diego CEREC specialist uses CEREC technology for many repairs and restorations of the teeth
. CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. Dentists use this new development in technology to give their patients ceramic restorations that are top of the line in the dental field. They use computer assisted technology and restoration procedures can be completed in only one visit to the office in many cases. So how does the technology work?
The technique that a San Diego CEREC specialist uses for the restoration begins with tooth preparation. The dentist will prepare the tooth for the procedure by putting a coating of white powder over it. A camera that takes 3D pictures will capture images of the tooth and will upload the information to a computer. From here on out until the actual application, the work is done by computers.
The first step is to photograph the area that will need the repair or restoration. The image is then stored as a three dimensional digital model. San Diego CEREC specialists can use this model to repair or replace many different parts of the teeth, and can be used for replacing whole teeth, fixing and filling cavities, and also for placing crowns. Once the specialist has the image of the damaged area, special software is used to estimate the shape that the restoration will take the form of. They use a machine that can reproduce one of the teeth that needs a filling, and they can also use it for teeth that need to be replaced along with surrounding teeth. These state of the art machines can also manufacture crowns that will fit perfectly over a tooth.
The model that has been created with this machine is then refined and refinished using 3D software. The next step then is milling. A milling unit creates the actual piece that will be used for the repair or restoration out of a block of ceramic or composite. This material can be used for many different procedures, but the ceramic material can contract and expand according to temperature, so the composite is usually used for restoring the smaller inlays.
Although a ceramic crown is precisely fitted to the patient, it only takes about four minutes to make one. The cutting and shaping of crowns is done by diamond head cutters that are computer controlled. When the restoration piece that will be used by your San Diego CEREC specialist is completely shaped and formed, it is then bonded in place into the patients mouth using a resin compound.
