What Is Acute Sinusitis? Do I Have It And Do I Need Antibiotics? - Nurse's Natural Secrets
Acute sinusitis can start abruptly whether you have a cold or not
. Colds are caused by viruses. Colds can cause an inflammation of the sinus cavities and you'll have sinusitis symptoms. If you do nothing the common cold and the inflammation of the sinuses (sinusitis) will disappear after about 14 days or so if you do nothing to treat it. If you treat it naturally you'll get rid of the sinus symptoms sooner.
The cold can cause a swelling and inflammation of the mucus membranes in the sinuses. These normally air filled sinus cavities can have trapped air that can't get out, along with mucus and bacteria that have backed up into it. The sinuses need to drain about a quart or so of fluid every day. Also you have four sets of sinus cavities and any of them can be involved.
All healthy people have bacteria in their noses and throats, for example the normally harmless bacteria -Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae. Some of this bacteria can get up into the sinus cavities and when blocked can cause a sinus infection. Whenever you blow your nose the pressure will send up the bacteria or any other foreign particles or allergens in your nose and possibly cause a sinus infection. That includes fungi and viruses too.
Fungi are a common cause of acute sinusitis and sinus infections. Acute sinusitis can occur also in people with compromised immune systems, HIV infections, cystic fibrosis, nasal abnormalities and nasal polyps for example. It's becoming more common as time goes by and antibiotics will not help. Nor are antibiotics routinely prescribed for sinus infections caused by bacteria these days.
It's questionable by some experts whether the antibiotics can actually reach the sinuses and often the sinus infection is not caused by bacteria. Also it takes a long course of treatment and in this time the body has usually taken care of it without the antibiotics. Antibiotics also have serious side effects, can cause allergic reactions and your body can build up a resistance to them.
If you're someone who has a lot of allergies or other nasal problems you may suffer from acute sinusitis from time to time.
If you suffer from chronic sinusitis, which is also called chronic rhino sinusitis, it may be because you have long term allergy exposure, polyps or other nasal obstructions or a disease like cystic fibrosis.
In any case using natural treatment at home for the symptoms of acute sinusitis without the use of harmful drugs or medications can quickly bring sinus relief and get you on the road to recovery fast without harmful side effects.
