What Is An It Network?
For the most part, people believe that at whatever time the words IT Network come up
, it implicates to local area network. Spot on, this characterisation is used insecurely to characterise an IT network, but the adding together of the words IT (Information technology) lends a deepness to the expressions that include both the physical, and practical use. More suitably, IT Network must be expressed as Computers and computer servers, networked mutually, being used to bring together, store, manipulate, and distribute information in a sequenced manner. Let us take a glance at the physical part of the network primarily. In order for the expression to be austerely applied, two or more computers have to be linked collectively. The terms to keep in mind are as follows:
Switch - A switch, by design provides data connectivity between all devices connected to it. Switches come in various sizes (size depicting the number of devices that can connect to it), starting from four ports (data connection socket) going up to 124 ports. These ports are built to handle 8P8C connectors.
The 8P8C connectors - The ports on the switches are based on the 8P8C (8 Position 8 Contact) Standard. This is often also known as RJ45 connectors.
The UTP, or STP Cable (Unshielded twisted pair, or Shielded twisted Pair) - A cable consisting of 4 pairs of twisted cable. Industry benchmark are CAT-5 (capable of transmitting 100 Megabits of data per second), or CAT-6 (capable of transmitting 1 Gigabits of data per second). This cable terminates the RJ45 connecters on both ends.
The Network Adapter - The standard card plugs into the computer providing the functionality of a network address (unique address within the network in order to route information appropriately). These cards are equipped with an RJ45 port.
Router - A device for providing connectivity to the internet, or another network over telephone/internet connections.
The servers are the computers that provide the functionality of authenticating users, and providing them access to the resources of the network. These machines are usually running server operating systems, and can be configured to provide additionally features of a network, namely, mail servers, databases, etc.
At this moment all the most important pieces have been acknowledged, putting them all collectively constitutes the physical network. To function as a proper IT Network, the purposeful characteristic needs to be investigated. The server we mentioned in advance is generally configured with operating system level software known as LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol). This software is used to validate users with a pre-configured user name, and password, based on those dispenses privileges to the assortment of areas of the network. On being logged in, users can have the right to use other devices, as their privileges state. The IT network can enclose more than one server, and other peripherals similar to printers, document scanners, et cetera. The complete purpose of an IT Network is to provide a concerted raised area for users to carry out an assortment of tasks all the way through their offices. These responsibilities can range from the straightforward utility of printing out a letter, preserve financial spreadsheets for others to contribute to, and work together on, enter, and repossess data from a database. Networks can be devoted to assured tasks, or be used as an all-purpose workhorse all the way through the place of work. This is reliant on the well-designed software that is ported to the network, and the set of connections.
