Well, actually no.

As a free member of an average traffic exchange you will get a 3:1 average surf ratio, so in order to recieve one visit to your web-site you need to visit 3 other websites. Each one for anything from 6 seconds to in some cases 30 seconds. Lets assume for a moment that the timer is set to 10 seconds, which seems to be about average, in this case allowing for network performance, human error and other variables, you will probably be able to visit an average of 3 sites per minute, so the average number of sites you can expect to visit in a hour is around 180, which generates about 60 hits for you. So to generate 1000 hits, you would need to surf the exchange for around 16-17 HOURS. This is based on the assumption that you are surfing a single Traffic Exchange at a time.

According to the US Census bureau the average per capita income is $21,587 per annum, assuming a 40 hour week, 52 weeks of the year, that equates to an hourly rate of $10.00. so the 1000 hits mentioned above from your average 'FREE' traffic exchange actually costs you $176.00 or 17.6cents per hit! Sounds expensive doesn't it - I have paid less than this for PPC campaigns with Google!

Even Powersurfing (using multiple tabs with different Traffic Exchanges in each Tab) you are limited in the number of hits you can build up. Using Powersurfing(go to my blog(see below) and leave a comment, if you want to know more), would allow you to run say 5 traffic exchanges in parallel, but each one would not be surfed with 100% efficiency, so you could probably increase your hits by a factor of three. So instead of costing $176.00 for 1000 hits, they are now costing you $59.00/1000 hits, which is a little better, but still not as low costs as maybe you thought.

Is it not time that you got your 'FREE' traffic actually for FREE?

I do not surf for credits. As we have demonstrated above, generating credits by surfing is actually quite costly. Our illustration referred to 1000 credits and showed that the minimum amount of time you would need to invest to build them up was 6 hours, but what if your offer or site needs 10,000 hits a day in order to generate the income you require? - I don't know about you, but I would struggle to find 60 hours in any day, just to create website traffic.

Now reading this might lead you to believe that I am Anti - Traffic Exchange, this is not the case Traffic Exchanges, safelists and text ad exchanges play a very big part in my marketing strategy. I do get thousands of hits every day from traffic exchnages, most of which are given to me, or purchased using commissions received from the self same Traffic Exchanges. It is indeed these hits that turn into subscribers, customers and eventually team leader in my traffic exchange profits business. Using this process I have been able to upgrade my membership at most of top Traffic Exchanges, resulting in a constant flow of high quality traffic to my sites. As a result of the upgrades mentioned I can also purchase hits(if ever I need them) at much, much lower rates for example Hitsafari provides me with 1000 hits for around $5.00 (or 0.5cents per hit), simply because I am a pro member.

If you are an active user of traffic exchanges, I urge you to investigate ways of mitigating the real cost to you of generating this traffic.
