At times, you might be exposed to something that seems to be a great investment. Before you write a check and get involved, slow down and do some research.

There are a variety of Ponzi schemes that have been reported on lately. This means that you should be optimistically skeptical of any opportunity that looks too good to be true. You should be able to ask questions and get solid responses. If you have to invest right now, with no opportunity of doing so within the next week or two, do not do it. If it is a good deal right now, it should be a good deal after you have a few days to think about it and do proper research.

Do some basic things like call a real phone number, research the opportunity on the internet, look at what competing opportunities provide, and find a real address. This is done to protect you from any schemes that might be there.

Even if you do find a legitimate opportunity, do not make the huge mistake many do. They take all their savings and risk it on one opportunity. Even if everything seems like a sure thing at times, change happens. Not every investment makes a return on your money. This could be one of the times that the method fails. You need to spread out a bit so that you can fail in one area and not affect your entire investment plans.
