What To Expect At Your First Aerobic Lesson
What To Expect At Your First Aerobic Lesson
Anyone thinking about starting an exercise program should consider taking an aerobic lesson or two, as an introduction to cardiovascular conditioning. There is an increasing amount of overweight and out of shape seeking to make a change, as our society is becoming increasingly aware of the ill-effects of being out of shape. A qualified aerobics instructor will not only be able to identify your strengths and weaknesses; but also make sure you don't overdue it and cause injury.
Checking your local classifieds and bulletin boards in your community can help identify places that offer free, or affordable classes in your area. There are a few things to be aware of when seeking out a place to take your first aerobic lesson.
Qualified Instructor
While almost anyone can teach an aerobics class, it's a great idea to seek out a qualified aerobics instructor, or someone with a certification in personal training. This will make sure you can let them know that you're a beginner and many will be able to talk one-on-one with you about your fitness and/or diet goals.
Free or Paid?
Many YMCA or other government-funded facilities will offer fitness programs that are included with monthly membership fees you pay to use their facilities and equipment. An aerobic lesson that's offered at such facilities are made up of paid and volunteer staff.
You can also go to gyms and fitness centers who will allow you to pay on a per class basis (generally the first lesson, or few lessons will be free so you can see if you like the class).
People who are close to a beach or community park: There are plenty of groups who assemble (weather permitting) to exercise together. You can't always be assured there will be a qualified instructor, but you will always find people who have similar goals to your own.
Get A Checkup First
Before under-taking your first aerobic lesson, please be sure have a checkup done by your family doctor, or healthcare professional. While it may seem like a chore, or unnecessary -- an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
