What To Expect On The American Government Clep Exam

CLEP (College Level Examination Program) allows students to demonstrate college-level

knowledge in a variety of subject-based exams in order to gain college credits. The American Government CLEP is one of the 34 different CLEP tests that students can take to gain credits for general or introductory level college coursework. By electing to take the American Government CLEP instead of taking a semester-long introductory level American Government course, students can save a tremendous amount of time and money and even be on a path to graduate ahead of schedule! Given that over 2,900 colleges and universities accept CLEP credit, many students will find that they can benefit from the American Government CLEP test.

The American Government CLEP test has 100 multiple choice questions to be answered in 90 minutes. It may be useful to note that some of the questions on the exam are actually pretest questions that wont be used to calculate your final score. You need to know that there's absolutely no difference between an incorrect answer and an answer that's been left blank, so if you're unsure of an answer, make sure you take a guess. If you guess, you may just get it right, but if you leave the question blank, it will be scored as a wrong answer. So, be sure to answer every question on the test even if youre not sure of some of your answers.

Plus, any time you spend taking the exam tutorials or entering your personal information will not be counted towards the 90 minutes youre given to take the test. Below youll find a list of the categories from which the questions on the American Government CLEP tests will be drawn. The percentages beside the categories will tell you how much of the American Government CLEP exam will be about that particular category.

American government and politics (55-60% of the CLEP exam)

The usual patterns of political processes and behavior, and the principles of various governmental structures and procedures (30-35% of the CLEP exam)

Analyzing and interpreting simple data relevant to American government and politics (10-15% of the CLEP exam)

Here are the specific topics covered in each of the above categories:

Institutions and policy processes, including congress, bureaucracy, and the presidency (30-35% of the CLEP test)

Civil liberties, civil rights, and federal courts (15-20% of the CLEP test)

Interest groups and political parties (15-20% of the CLEP test)

Political behaviors and beliefs (10-15% of the CLEP exam)

The constitutional fundamentals of American democracy (15-20% of the CLEP exam)

Once you finish taking the American Government CLEP exams youll be given your unofficial score.} Your score will fall somewhere between 20 and 80 and you need to score at least a 50 to pass the American Government CLEP test. If you receive a passing score on the CLEP test, youll be given the credit you need for American Government and will be exempt from taking the class itself.
