What To Expect On The Introductory Psychology Clep Test

The material thats presented on the Introductory Psychology CLEP (College Level Examination

Program) test covers material you would have learned during one semester of an introductory psychology course in college. The Introductory Psychology CLEP test covers several topics divided into several categories including basic concepts, facts, principles that are generally accepted in the area of psychology. These topics are covered in thirteen different categories which are listed below.

The Introductory Psychology CLEP test The Introductory Psychology CLEP exam is made up of 95 questions and youre given 90 minutes to answer all of the questions on the CLEP test. Keep in mind that some of the 95 questions are not test questions, but rather, pretest questions that you wont be graded on. You should know that the time you spend working on the CLEP tutorials that are available or entering your personal information into the CLEP system will not be counted towards the 90 minutes you have to take the Introductory Psychology CLEP test.

Currently, nearly 3,000 colleges and universities grant credit to students who obtain qualifying scores on CLEP exams. Each learning institution has unique CLEP policies and so you will need to check with your academic counselor to see if you can use the Introductory Psychology CLEP test to earn credits toward your undergraduate degree. You academic counselor or university registrars office will be able to let you know the minimum score you need to earn on your exam in order to receive credit. Although the American Council on Education (ACE), encourages colleges and universities to grant three credits to students who obtain a score of 50 or higher on their Introductory Psychology CLEP, each colleges scoring and credit policies may vary.

In order to achieve a credit-granting score on the Introductory Psychology CLEP tests, you will have to demonstrate that you have knowledge of the subject matter equivalent to that of a student who has taken and passed a general psychology course. In addition to knowing foundational terms, theories, and principles, you will also have to understand and analyze problem scenarios and apply your understanding of psychology to various situations. The exam covers topics such as learning; the history, methods, and approaches of psychology; psychological health and psychological disorders; and developmental psychology.


Now that you know a little about the topics to study for when youre preparing to take the Introductory Psychology CLEP exam, you can select the resources you will use to study and develop a study plan. As you study, keep the end goal in mind: a qualifying CLEP score and three college credits.
