What You Must Know About Creating A Chandelier Using Found Objects

When you think of a chandelier, undoubtedly delicate crystals or intricate iron works come to mind

. However, you can also build a chandelier out of pretty much anything. If you have a collection or you want to continue a theme in your home, you can do it by building your own custom chandelier. Your chandelier can be elegant or perhaps you want to build a whimsical one for your childs room. With just a tiny bit of electrical know-how, or with assistance from someone who has it, you can create a custom chandelier that will perfectly suit your area.

"Found" Things

As you think about crafting a chandelier from found objects, the bulk of the fun is in selecting the objects that you desire to include in your lamp. You can create a chandelier out of literally anything, including old hardware, kitchen utensils, plastic milk cartons and small pieces of metal artwork. Items that you select can be translucent, shiny, or colorful. Finding the appropriate materials for your project is part of the enjoyment of creating a custom chandelier.

Beads and Baubles

If you simply look around your home, you can find all sorts of things that will work to make a beautiful chandelier. Another great idea for adornments is old costume jewelry or unstrung beads. A walk through your kitchen can sometimes be helpful in helping you find elements for a beautiful chandeliers. Possible adornments can include everything from plastic cutlery to contemporary metal wall hangings or artisan metal wall art. Or use old teacups in a Victorian inspired lighting fixture. You just need to use items that wont melt or crack from the heat given off by the light bulbs; or place delicate pieces further away from the bulbs on your fixture.

Vines and Bones

Think about using grapevine, driftwood, or tree branches to make a chandelier for a rustic space. Antlers and animal bones also make interesting displays for a rustic environment. Remember safety at all times, which means being aware of the heat that is given off by the lightbulbs and be sure that the lamp is wired correctly.

Vintage Toys

A chandelier made up of vintage children's toys is a fun addition to a child's bedroom. You can choose a single type of toy like a jack in the box, or you can simply mix and match the toys for a fun effect. You can start with an existing chandelier as a base and mount your toys on it, or you can build the entire chandelier using toy parts. When you are creating your chandelier, you may learn that you will already have a good idea about making your next one.
