The point is, though, you need to know where the local market value is before making your offer or you may wind up paying much more than you really have to.

What Do You Need?

If the local value is, say, eighty thousand, and you offer sixty thousand, then the seller will probably try to push you back up to the seventy, seventy five area, or if it's a particularly nice home, you might even pay a little more than the average. But, the point is to start low and make the seller work for every dollar. Of course, if you just go in with a wild guess and offer some ridiculously low number, then it will become clear that you don't know what you're doing, and they'll try to take advantage of that fact.
