What feeds your soul?
Is it a beautiful sunset, a walk by the water
, a delicious meal, beautiful music, watching your children, or something else? What makes you feel complete, whole, at one with the universe? What floats your boat?' A lot of questions to a subject that each one of us is searching for whether we are aware of it or not. In other words, what makes us happy?
Taking joy from the simple pleasures in life is definitely the way forward for me. There is so much to be thankful for. One thing I love is walking in the fresh air, absorbing the scenery and the sheer joy I experience roaming over the hills and communing with nature. Wonderful!
For me, happiness has to come from within. For many years I used to think that material things gave me happiness. There is nothing wrong with this when you feel you have worked hard to earn them. This brings a sense of achievement and satisfaction. What I am trying to get at is the pure unadulterated joy of just being and discovering what makes your heart sing.
So how do you feel? Do you know what feeds your soul or do you find it hard to take time out from the hustle and bustle of everyday life to think about this?
Showing gratitude for everything and giving thanks can bring you feelings of joy. This can be showing appreciation to the universe for a lovely day; for the simple things in life. Giving thanks for being healthy and able to do all the things I like to do. Also being grateful for having two sons who have turned out to be "OK guys!" and last but not least for having a loving and happy relationship with my husband, of 23 years.
My two sons have brought me immense joy and continue to do so everyday. Yes, we all have our challenges with our children but would we change them? I know I wouldn't. I hope they would not change their mum! I know I was given these two souls to nurture and care for as they grew up, teach them the lessons they had to learn, into the men they are now. We can only do the best we can as parents. I use the valuable things my parents taught me and discard the things I did not agree with, when they were bringing me up!
Being grateful has such a beneficial knock on effect to my happiness and contentment in life. It helps me to keep things in perspective and not to make mountains out of molehills!' It helps me to see what is important in my life. I also find that gratitude towards others helps me to feel loving and compassionate.
Anyway does this give you food for thought? Have a go at listing all the things you are thankful/grateful for in life, it really opens your eyes and helps you count your blessings. I know it has for me.
Thanks for reading.
