What is a digital Photo Keychain?

A digital photo keychain is a small electronic device that has a small LCD screen. It is used to display your favourite pics in a portable way so you can show your friends and family quite easily. I guess you can compare it as a smaller version of the popular digital photo frames that you ca buy for your home these days.

Typically the digital photo keychain is about 2 inches long and contains a rechargeable battery. I have seen keychains that can take replaceable batteries also so the choice is yours when buying one. They will have a couple of buttons that are used to turn the unit off/on, cycle through the photos and/or go into a slideshow mode. Obviosuly for the fashion conscious, carying colours and shapes are available all while keeping the size of the unit small enough to go with your keys.

Getting the photos on the digital photo keychain is as simple as installing the software on your PC that came with the device, and then plugging it into the computer via the supplied USB cable. Depending on the capacity of the device, it could store as little as 20 photos or even as many as 100. They will accept JPG and BMP files, with some models I have seen allowing GIF files also.

Who would most use one of these? Well, kids would love them as a novelty item and you wouldnt need to worry about your precious digital camera getting broken if they had one. Even adults would keep one handy with their keys. Whilst it may not be the primary method of sharing photos with friends and family, it is certainly one of the best methods because of it's portability and size.

Another great idea would be for corporate gifts. Companies could hand them out to prospective clients or use them in their marketing campaigns. Photos could be preloaded onto the device with company information, contact numbers as a always handy reference. Its a damn sight better than pens and balloons which everyone else uses!

This is another great example of technology and how electronics have reduced in size over the years. There's no denying that technology plays a large part of our everyday lives and appear in just about everything we have and do. Even down to your keys where you can have a digital photo keychain which is small enough to carry in your pocket.
