What's New With Today's Wireless Reader

After two years or so since the introduction of the wireless reading device

, consumers around the world are eagerly embracing what is still relatively new technology. Today's wireless readers including Amazon's Kindle 2 are a step up from what was already a practical alternative to buying, carrying and reading regular books, magazines and newspapers.

If you're unfamiliar with the device known as the wireless reader, you'll be amazed it's capabilities. Electronic wireless readers can be used to download books, newspapers, magazines and blogs in a matter of seconds. They are specially designed to make reading on an electronic screen comfortable, convenient and enjoyable. There are thousands of books available for purchase, and the list of free ebooks and other reading materials continues to grow.

The new Kindle provides access to a basic web browser through Kindle's wireless 3G Whispernet connection. Owners can access and download reading material at Amazon's Kindle books storefront, plus free books and other reading material at other specialized ereader websites. One of the best things about this and other wireless readers is there is no cost or service plan required for use.

Kindle ebooks cost several dollars less than regular printed books offered at Amazon. You can browse and read several pages of any book before you decide to buy. In addition to saving money on printed books, owners also have the advantage of being able to purchase a book at any time and receive it instantly. Newspaper and magazine subscriptions are also available. Currently, purchased books can be transferred to as many as 6 Amazon wireless readers.

Amazon's new wireless reader also includes a music player, although MP3 music playback can only be controlled by keyboard commands. You can add music to the Kindle from your computer using the reader's USB cable.

Another great feature of the latest wireless reader is the ability to read and store personal or professional documents. To transfer your documents to a Kindle 2, you email files to your Kindle email address, or alternatively, you can transfer them with a USB cable. You can then either read documents in PDF, or convert them to Kindle format. Amazon's online Kindle service can also convert HTML, DOC, JPEG, GIF, PNG and BMP files and send them to wireless readers for 10 cents a piece.

Today's new and improved wireless reader also operates for extremely long periods of time on a single battery charge. Owners can look forward to as many as 4 to 5 days of continuous use and operation with the wireless connection turned on. Without wireless connectivity, wireless readers can run for as much as 2 weeks before requiring a recharge.

Anyone who has put off purchasing a Kindle to see how the technology would advance will appreciate the new features and design of the latest wireless reader. This wireless reader is ideally suited for anyone who enjoys reading and is looking for an alternative to carrying and handling bulky books, and environmentally unfriendly magazines and newspapers.
