What's So Great About Martial Arts Classes

. Martial Arts lessons offer more than health benefits as they arm people witht he skills to potentially survive a violent encounter; acquiring efficient self-defence skills is another goal people have when beginning to train. What's more, Martial Arts training is a way to work off stress and have fun; the third main motivation for beginners to take the plunge into Martial Arts training.

One or more of these three reasons can account for why most people take up Martial Arts Training. The problem is, do Martial Arts classes actually satisfy people's expectations in this regard? This post will try to discover whether Martial Arts training satisfies the motivations people have when starting. Usually Martial Arts classes have a prominent fitness section; calories are burnt while executing throws, punches, kicks and by moving around. So your Martial Arts training should provide a great workout but be aware that some classes will have more intensity than others.

As a rule, a Martial Arts style with a competitive side will ensure you get fit, so you can compete effectively. An example, would be a Muay Thai class which will emphasise fitness to enable you to cope with the intensity in the ring. Regardless of whether you want to compete or not you will get fit, no question about it. A traditional Karate class which emphasises forms, or Kata in Japanese, over sparring or competition may place less emphasis on fitness than a Muay Thai class. While this may be generally the case, nowadays some Karate schools are entering students into MMA and Kickboxing tournaments, which blurs the distinction a little. In general though, combat sports do emphasise fitness more than traditional MArtial Arts.

All Martial Arts classes have a self-defence element and will help you survive an attack. However, traditional Martial Arts place greater emphasis on training in a manner which is historically correct. This means that some aspects of training can be out of date.

Combat sports prepare you specifically for the ring/cage where there are rules to protect fighters from the more deadly attacks. Self-defence and self-protection styles purport to train these deadlier techniques and so better prepare you for the reality of an attack. This is not conclusive, however, and there is some debate on the internet and elsewhere over the best option for self-defence purposes. It is safe to say that while all styles will better prepare you compared to nothing there are pro's and cons for each. Even the Traditional Martial Arts contain some deadly techniques; combat sports actually get you to fight, albeit in the ring while self-defence systems train specifically for defence.

One thing is for sure, any form of Martial Arts training will blow away the stress from the day. Simply throwing punches and kicks or chucking a partner to the floor is a greater stress buster. In fact, I believe that every home should have a a heavy bag to let loose on. Family life would be easier as a result.

Martial Arts classes do deliver on the three main reasons cited for why people start training, to varying degrees, despite there being differences in emphasis. You will get fit, you will learn to protect yourself and you will beat stress, so what are you waiting for?
