Google, the alternative name of Search, is presently enjoying the lead position with 65.6% share, whereas Yahoo and Bing reported 17.5% and 10.3% share in the November month. Recently, the company has been expanding beyond its search engine and released its Smartphone, softwares, netbook, web based apps and web browser. However, the company is also working on various up gradation in the search engine.
The company has released various new features in a demo event at the Computer History Museum. The new features restore peoples faith in Google as a major innovator. Here, the feature discusses new technologies incorporated in the website.
Google Real-Time Search
Last month, the company had introduced real-time search integrated into search results pages. Now, users can find fresh search results pushed live to the search results page, with a pause button above that section of the page. The new search updates will be collected from the Web like live tweets, Yahoo Answers, MySpace updates, Facebook public profiles, news articles and Web pages. The new service runs on mobile devices too.
Google also said that technologies like personalization and localization will be used for future real-time search. Besides Google, Bing also featured the real-time search capability, which already integrates real-time Twitter and Facebook results. Unlike Google, Bing provides more real-time results on wider range of topics, but their utility have any value is left for you to decide.
Google Goggles
As the company continues to innovate something new for its search technology, it has expanded beyond browser-based text search to include voice and image searches. The new Google Goggles, an image-based search service, which permits users to present a picture and get web-based search results pulled from Google's 1 billion images.
Presently, the experimental service will be available only on Android-powered smartphones, but it will be available on Chrome web browser in future. However, the company has not included any facial recognition until privacy concerns are figured out.
Near Instant Voice Translation
Besides, pictures in Google Goggles, the search giant has announced a new feature through which users can search the web via voice and also offers near-instant translation. Meanwhile, the initial prototype can handle only English to Spanish language and handles the app through the cloud via your mobile phone. However, the company predicts to have
support for all the world's major languages by the end of 2010.
Location based search via Suggest
Google Suggest, which is the drop-down list of suggested keywords that appear under the search box as you type. But, now it is modified according to the location of the user, for example two different countries will show different results after typing any letters in the search box.
Near Me Now app
The new Near Me Now feature for mobile phones will provide you points of interest in the nearby geographic area after figuring out your location. For example, it can tell you about the nearest store with a product required and about its availability.
