It is one of the main landmarks in the United States. Many people still wonder about the answer to the question, when was the presidential palace Built.
1. The first answer to the question when was the executive mansion built was in 1790 when George Washington decided to put the seat of the government near the Potomac River. He did this with the assistance of a city engineer named Pierre L'Enfant, shortly after that a contest for the designer of the President's would be home was set. Nine people joined the competition. The winner was James Hoban, an architect who won because of his classic but practical design.

Another huge fire happened in 1929 during the term of Herbert Hoover, this was the reason why during the term of Harry Truman much of the official residence's third floor was not used at all because it was renovated. President Truman spent most of his time at the Blair House.

According to the records, a congressman named Abijah Bigelow wrote to another congressman just a few months before the country went to war against the British forces. He wrote the term presidential mansion to pertain to the house of the president.
