When You Buy Digital Cameras, Which Do You Choose?

Today, there are many choices when you buy digital cameras

. They range everywhere from a simple point and shoot camera to the DSLR. The right choice will depend on your use for the camera. You will find that there are many very affordable models that give great shots.

When digital cameras were new, the largest challenge was to find the camera that offered the most megapixels. The pixels are the dots that form the image on the screen. More dots mean a higher resolution of your picture. Nearly all cameras today offer a minimum of ten megapixels. That resolution means that ten million dots fill the computer screen for each shot on the camera.

If you want to be able to take some quick snapshots that are adequate for prints and for emailing to friends and family, a point and shoot camera may be the best for you. You will not have to bother to focus the lens or set the f-stop with this camera. It will operate much like the Instamatic cameras of the seventies.

The camera that is just above a point and shoot model will offer zoom capabilities. These cameras are also easy enough to use. They allow you to bring your subject closer with the push of a button. You can also accomplish a zoom on the computer after the shot is finished with any camera, but may lose some resolution.

A DSLR operates much like the SLR cameras of the past. The greatest difference is that photos are on digital media rather than on film. The camera may accept different lenses and allow you to shoot in an automatic or a manual mode.

Digital cameras offer high quality pictures without the cost or bother of purchasing film and sending out for processing. If you have pictures of which you want prints, the digital photos can be sent electronically to many print processing companies that prepare photo quality prints. In addition, you photos can easily be shared with family and friends.
