Breaking up should never be easy but it is on occasion best. Breaking up with someone when the time is right might save you both further heartache down the road and may even help you pull a friendship from the ashes of your romance. Stranger things have happened. When is Breaking up Best? There are many times when breaking up with someone is the best course of action to take. Some of those times are these: the moment you realize you don't love your partner, when you discover that you have more bad moments together than good, and when there is abuse in the relationship. Each of these situations poses specific problems that are extremely difficult to overcome and work past. The best thing for both of you is likely to be walking away. Who Hurts Most when Breaking Up? This depends on the situation. It isn't easy being the one in the "driver's seat" when breaking up. It hurts a lot even when you're the one who makes the decision. There has been hurt leading up to this point so it's difficult to say who hurts the most. The likely scenario though is that both of you hurt a great deal during the course of the relationship and the ending of the relationship. What is the Reason for the Break Up? Before you decide this is best, breaking up with someone that is, you ought to have a really good reason for doing it. The reasons above are all great but might not be the reason you're doing it. It is best to find neutral territory for both of you. You don't want to go to "your special place." You also don't want to do it at home. Whether you share a home or live separately the place where either of you live should be off limits for the actual breaking up. It's a kindness for you both to go somewhere completely neutral that holds no personal or sentimental value to make the break.
