Which paper type and finish to use?

Mostly, business cards are made of medium weight card stock. If you opt for the standard weight of card stock, that pertains to the medium weight stock. But if you desire to have your card printed on a thicker card stock or a different type of paper, just tell your printer and they will be more than happy to give you several choices. Be sure that a thicker or different card stock is what you really need as they can cost more than standard card stock.

Another think about is your business card is its finish. In the past, it's common to see a business card printed with a matte finish. However, as photos and images become increasingly widespread on business card templates, many business owners or professionals are choosing glossy finish on their card for a touch of style.

The shape

The standard shape of a business card is rectangular, but these days you can have any shape you want. If you opt for a circular business card, that's not a problem. But understand that unusual shapes are considerably pricier than the standard shape and they are likely to be tossed easily because they don't fit into a standard business card case. But if you are on a tight budget and still want to create unusually shaped cards, there are still options available for you such as rounded edges. Such design is very much capable of improving the style of your business card.
