Which Self-defense Product Should You Purchase?
You can't go anywhere any more without hearing or seeing some manner of violence and crime in the news
. Nowhere is safe anymore. So maybe this is when you should think about acquiring some non-lethal self-protection weapons. There are a lot to check out however. How do you know which to pick? You'll have to do a little studying. Don't walk into the trap of not buying any self-defense weapon, leaving you vulnerable, just because you don't know what to purchase.
First, decide who will get the self-defense product:
1. Yourself: If purchasing a self-defense product for yourself, do you want something that can be used in close range, at a distance, do you want it to be camouflaged or obvious?
A product to be used up close and personal would be a stun gun. They come in several different designs and voltage ranges. Though the stun gun must touch the attacker, it will shock through clothing and will incapacitate the perpetrator, causing his muscles to shut down briefly after depleting his body of blood sugar.
A self-defense product that can be used at a bit of a distance would be a pepper spray. Pepper sprays also come in many sizes, shapes and strengths with different shooting distances from 10 to 25 feet. Someone getting pepper spray in their eyes, nose and mouth will be faced with temporary blindness and barely able to breathe. He will be in a great deal of pain, discomfort and even nausea for up to 45 minutes, giving you time to escape and call authorities.
If you'd like to hide your stun gun in plain sight, there are units made to look like cell phones or flashlights. Or otherwise, you can wear your stun gun on your hip in a holster.
You can find pepper sprays disguised as lipstick, a ring, a pager, a pen, or even hand-held jogging weights.
2. Your spouse: The same goes for your spouse as went for you as far as deciding on strength, range, hidden or obvious. Size is of importance also. Your spouse may want a small palm size stun gun. Or she might want the power of the Mace pepper gun with its longer shooting range.
3. Your children: If you have children old enough to be responsible carrying a pepper spray product, that would be the ideal protection against an attack. Not all cities allow pepper sprays, so you need to check with local authorities to determine the laws pertaining to them. Teen-agers carrying pepper spray must be very responsible and trained in how and when to use it.
Another safe and legal self-defense item for a child to carry is a personal alarm. In fact, I believe all children should carry one and be taught only to use it if they are in trouble. The silence in the air will be shattered by the ear piercing blast of a high decibel personal alarm. Personal alarms come in different forms that are easy to use. Attention and focus on the assailant will send him fleeing.
Wearing a transmitter on a wrist, a very young child can be kept track of by the adult who has the receiver with another protection product known as a child guard. An alarm will warn the adult if the youngster has wandered outside of the preset distance. This is a device that will be welcomed when walking in busy areas such as fairs and zoos.
Now that you know a little more about some of the available self-defense options out there, don't wait until it's too late. Crime rates are rising. Cases of rape and assault are increasing. Use non-lethal self-defense weapons to protect you and your family. Don't be trapped by not knowing which defense products to buy. It could cost you your sanity or life.
