As to the main differences between the traditional and the European styles, the traditional one is also called frame face style, while the European is called frameless style. The traditional one is well known in the US for many years, while the European one is a rather newer addition. It only entered the US market after WWII.

With the frame face cabinet style, you can use lower quality materials for the sides since the frame can easily hide that cheap material from view. The problem is, however, that the frame is using additional space that you could use otherwise. Also you have here a smaller front opening so when designing this cabinet, the shelves and drawers have to be made smaller in order to properly fit.

When it comes to the European cabinet styles, their space is really best used due to them lacking that extra frame. Also this cabinet is smaller than the other style, so it can be very easily added to any part of the kitchen with a bit of extra space available. The cabinet has a rather narrow strip that covers the edge of the panel, so when the door is actually closed, you don't see the hinges, which is a major benefit (it looks much better this way). These cabinets are available in standard sizes, so you can use and add any regular kitchen cabinet organizers since they will fit in nicely. This is actually one reason why many homeowners prefer them to the traditional style.
