White Christmas Tickets - New Broadway Show Revealed
The beloved classic White Christmas is returning to Broadway this season for a month
, and it has a performance schedule that will allow patrons of the Marquis Theater in New York to enjoy this annual holiday treat. The Irving Berlin classic will return to Broadway with direction by Walter Bobbie, choreography by Randy Skinner and music supervision by Rob Berman.
The show, which began performances mid-November, stars James Chow, Melissa Errico, Tony Yazbeck, Mara Davi, Ruth Williamson, Peter Reardon, Remy Auberjonois, Cliff Bemis, Madeleine Yen and David Ogden Stiers. The cast was revealed in early November at the New 42nd Street Studios. The ensemble was smiling for the cameras of Playbill, Theater Mania and Broadway World as they geared up for their 61-performance run at the Marquis. The plot remains legendary and is based on a book by David Ives and Paul Blake. In the Christmas story, two businessmen (Bob Wallace and Phil David) set out to have the perfect holiday in a Vermont inn until their picturesque performance while capturing two lovely ladies leads to a snowed-in extravaganza, complete with their boss. They sing some classic holiday tunes like "Count Your Blessing Instead of Sheep," "Sisters" and, of course, "White Christmas." The fun family treat isn't just a romantic outing for lovers but can be appreciated by audiences of all ages.
This holiday season, the Broadway adventure is just the beginning for White Christmas; the Irving Berlin spectacular plans to spread its blanket of snow throughout the nation, as well, with a national tour. Visiting Omaha, Cincinnati, Philadelphia, East Lansing, St. Louis, Louisville and Kansas City, the show is sure to give a bit more sparkle into these blustery cities this winter.
The national tour stars Lorna Luft, David Elder, Megan Sikora, Stephen Bogardus and Kerry O'Malley - all of whom are White Christmas veterans. O'Malley reprises her role following last year's national tour. Bogardus, a Tony Award nominee, returns to his role of Bob Wallace following 2008's national tour as well as the White Christmas Broadway show. Elder played Phil David during the 2008 Detroit production, Sikora was in the Detroit performance last Christmas during, and Luft remains the only member hailing from the UK production in 2006.
The song has remained a holiday favorite since Berlin's words were strewn out on display during the 1942 Bing Crosby film Holiday Inn. That year it won the Academy Award for Best Song, and it gave Christmas lovers a new tune to hum during each and every holiday season. Though it has been re-recorded several times over, the original was made by the showman himself, Bing Crosby, the year it was written.
Since then, according to the Guinness World Records, the tune has sold 100 million copies worldwide. Following Holiday Inn, the single was used as a basis for the Crosby film of the same name, which followed the musical film partnership between Crosby, Fred Astaire and Irving Berlin. The musical marvels were in their third production together with White Christmas.
