Who Says There Arent Any Great New Jobs Out There? Part 1

There are no two ways about it, the job markets tough

. There are enormous stresses and strains on the employment market and all the signs seem to indicate that there is no immediate relief on the horizon. The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) released a report this week concluding that economic growth over the next few years need only to be slightly weaker than the Office for Budget Responsibilitys (OBR) forecasts to leave real world employment levels well short of the coalition government's predictions.

The report indicates that the UK economy has to grow by a minimum 2.5% every year up until 2015 if the private sector is to stand any chance of being robust enough to make up for the impacts of the impending squeeze in public spending on the public sector with fresh employment opportunities.

It's not just public sector workers who are starting to feel the squeeze. Graduates are being particularly hard hit with a reported one in four facing unemployment. Often employers are complaining that they simply don't possess the sorts of skills needed. Some reports also indicate that many semi-skilled Eastern European workers are also having a tough time and have decided that enough is enough. A combination of poor exchange rates and the scarcity of well-paid work are dulling the attraction of life in the UK.

That's not to say though that the jobs aren't out there. In fact, for the right people with the right sorts of skills and experience in areas such as pharmaceuticals, medicine, software development, specialist manufacturing and a whole host of other sectors, there are now many new and exciting opportunities waiting to be discovered. The recent UK trade delegation to India and public debate over the proposed immigration cap focused attention very clearly on the fact that Britain's economic well-being is highly dependent on attracting and retaining a super-skilled workforce.

Internationally, demand is outstripping supply when it comes to highly skilled jobs. If you've got the sorts of abilities and experience currently in worldwide demand and are able to present them effectively then life's not so bad.

Even if you are skilled and are seeking a new position, maybe you feel pastures new will help you boost your CV or you feel that a move will lead to better pay or a more interesting job, it's important to not be complacent. It's always sensible to do everything in your power when working with specialist employment agencies, such as doctors recruitment agencies or pharmaceutical recruitment agencies to ensure that when it comes to the final decision making it's your name at the top of the list. Yes, employers complain that many Generation Y applicants don't have either the life skills or ambition to compete or that many graduates also lack the necessary where-with-all. They also worry that the wider pool of labour out there simply doesn't possess the necessary attributes. As an experienced and skilled professional it's not these sorts of applicants that need concern you. It's the other experienced and skilled professionals who'll be vying with you for that coveted vacancy that you need worry about.
