Whole Blood Delivery Services

There are many different kinds of medical deliveries which might be taken by a Phoenix

delivery service that has the proper equipment and certifications to transport medical material. Specimens for testing, organs, and pharmaceuticals will all be transported from time to time, but the most common type of medical delivery is likely going to be whole blood delivery. Many people find the term whole blood to be somewhat confusing, as it is a slightly scientific terminology. Whole blood refers to blood being in the state that it is in immediately after it is donated. What most don't know is that it isn't the form most commonly used in transfusions. Most times, when blood is needed, it is actually one of its components which are required, such as the red blood cells, the plasma, or the platelets. The problem with splitting the blood before transport though, is that it reduces the amount of time that the product will remain fresh and useful for transport. That is why it is much more common to see whole blood transported than any of the component parts of a blood donation.

There are varying factors that influence how long blood can last, and it is the job of the courier moving the whole blood to help ensure that that it is as viable as possible when it reaches the place where it will be used. For instance, the primary concern when transporting whole blood is being sure that it is kept at the appropriate temperature. Vehicles used to transport it must be specially cooled so that the blood doesn't become warm, otherwise it can become useless. Separated blood would have even less of a temperature tolerance; another reason whole blood is kept whole until it is required for use.

Whole blood delivery performs a vital service in the health care of people all over the country. Just because a town is smaller or a hospital more out of the way doesn't mean that they don't have many lives to save, and don't have a regular need for blood for transfusion. What it does mean though is that there is likely much less blood being donated, if there is a place to do so at all where it can be viably stored. By having reliable whole blood delivery infrastructure in place it becomes much easier to ensure that patients not at a major center still receive acceptable health care.
