Why Can't I Stay Motivated
Want, want, want, want
Want, want, want, want. Having a clear focused picture of what you want will give you the motivation you need to succeed at whatever you set your mind to. Think you know what you want? You might be surprised to find that a large majority of people spend their lives going after what they don't want without even knowing it. Once you define your want your purpose and motivation will fall into place.
To figure out what you want, you first need to define what you don't want. Sounds simple enough, right?
Let's take a look at how what you don't want makes you feel. You might say, "I don't want any more bills." Okay, that's clearly a don't want.
Now, let's turn the statement into what you do want. You might say, "I want to get out of debt." Now how do you feel in the pit of your stomach about your want? Do you feel better? Not likely. But why? Simply put, your focus is still on what you don't want. By saying, "I want to get out of debt," you're focusing on your lack of funds.
The biggest factor in figuring out your want is determining what you're focusing on. In both statements above your focus is on the lack of finances.
It's hard to stay motivated if you're focusing on the lack of what you want. So, how do you turn your focus around? By figuring out the opposite of lack.
The opposite of the lack of funds is financial freedom. What does financial freedom mean to you? It means different things to each of us. For one person it might be $73,000 a year. For another it might be $127,000 a year. What would it take for you to be financially free?
This changes the focus from the lack of funds to the abundance of funds. How would you feel if you made the amount that it would take for you to be financially free?
The best way to determine the difference between a want and a don't want is to determine the feeling you get from it. If your want gives you a good feeling, the motivation to accomplish what you want is automatic.
Now that you've figure out how to change your focus from a don't want to a want take some time to yourself to figure out your wants. Listen to your heart. What would make you happy?
Finding the answers to what would make you happy and figuring out a clear detailed path to that happiness is essential in living life to the fullest. Working towards your happiness is the key to staying motivated.
If you find yourself losing the motivation simply go back and take a look at the feeling you're getting about what you want to accomplish. If it's not a good feeling then go back through this process until you feel good about your want and the motivation will surface once again and you'll be moving forward towards your dreams.
Now that you know why you can't stay motivated take about a half hour tonight and figure out what you your wants are. Then you'll have the motivation you seek and everything in your life will begin to recharge and manifest the happiness you desire.
