Why Dump Truck Tarps Are An Important Piece Of Equipment

At least one time in most drivers lives, they have experienced being pummeled with

flying debris from the beds of pick up trucks traveling in front of them. Whether your vehicle is being covered with flying dirt, or pelted with small (or large) rocks or sticks, it can be highly annoying, not to mention costly to fix any damage that may be incurred. The damage might be even worse when following a dumper truck or semi truck. Using dump truck tarps is a helpful way to prevent this type of thing from happening.

The use of dump truck tarps is required by law in many states. In some places it is legal not to have the load covered with a tarp as long as nothing is seen falling out of the truck. However, most people believe it's a good idea to cover the loads containing material that can easily blow out.

From mesh to polyester, there are all kinds of different materials used to manufacture these kinds of tarps. There are also different systems used to implement their use. The truck tarp can be operated manually or automatically. It depends on the material you're transporting as to what kind of tarp material and system you will need to use, but most dumper trucks use automatic systems these days.

No matter what type of tarp material or system you are using, making sure the load is tightly (but not too tightly) tied down is very important. If the tarp is not tied down tight enough it could be whipped up by the wind, causing it to flap around while exposing and or allowing the load beneath it to fall out.

Dump truck tarps should be inspected frequently for rips and tears. Mending a rip or tear is usually pretty simple to fix with a repair kit. Keeping up on the maintenance of the tarps they use, is an important part of being a safe truck driver.
