If the glass is broken it can lead to injuries related to shrapnel, coupled with the release of hazardous compounds such as mercury. The biggest threat when the fluorescent lighting bulb is broken can be from the glass which is phosphor-coated glass. If any phosphor gets near the wound it prevents blood clotting and also will interfere with the healing of the wound.

Apart from the above mentioned facts or effects, you may find a lot many hazardous effects of using fluorescent lighting bulbs over the internet. Regulators and manufacturers have taken several steps to eliminate these problems with the use of LED lighting. In United States, the latest Energy Star criterion for integrated replacement lamps of LED include requirement for 150 Hz operation. So go ahead and use LED lighting which is safer compared with traditional fluorescent lighting.
