Street Appeal is one of the most difficult and elusive things to achieve in houses

Even builders and decorating professionals often fail to achieve it. Many neighborhoods are filled with houses that are virtually identical, making it impossible for homeowners to stand out when they need to sell their homes, too.

But getting this right is the best way in the world to make a house desirable

Its that special something that brings potential buyers knocking on your door when your house is NOT for sale.

Why is this so difficult to do?

Think about it. Most houses are just buildings. They are all somewhat similar to each other. But some are outstanding for reasons people fail to understand. They just know they are cute or interesting or just wonderful.

Some houses are so cute and attractive that people just gravitate to them, take photos of them and love the way they look.

There are 3 things that can make one house stand out from all the others.

1.The windows in any home really matter to how good the structure looks. They are also more expensive than any other part of most building projects. Great looking windows can make your home look and feel special. So highlight those windows. Frame around them with great trim both inside and outside. This can make any window or door look larger and more important. For instance a single French door will look more attractive and more like a feature if you attach full length shutters on each side of the door. Many houses in New Orleans have this feature. Putting trim and shutters around any window can make it look larger and more attractive.

2.Paint and color on the outside of a house can make it stand out from the pack. Some colors just work well together. There are lots of combinations. 3 or 4 colors work better than 1 or 2. They need to work together in the same way you put together a great outfit. Yellow with white trim and green shutters. Khaki, white, navy and burgundy. Its difficult to decide about trim color for brick houses. Whatever your brick may be, some colors will make it look greator not. Its a matter of consulting a color wheel and recognizing the right complimenting colors, shades and hues.

3.And finally theres landscaping. A great landscape highlights the house but does not hide it from the street. Its also nice to have a few interesting curves in sidewalks and other features. Flowerbeds and planting beds can take room from what might otherwise be lawn. Less lawn means you get a more interesting landscape. Its good, too if the plants you use in your landscape grow well in your area. Native plants always do better in any landscape.

These 3 things are the keys to making your house look better than others. Most houses are a collection of geometric shapes that can either be good or bad in appearance. Perfect windows, perfect colors and perfect landscaping can set your house far above all the others.
