Why More And More Organizations Are Taking Landscaping Seriously

Less than a couple of decades ago, most organizations used to have a very relaxed' attitude towards landscaping

. In other words, they didn't take it very seriously. The typical organization then would have a flower bed outside the main office block , and maybe a shrub or two growing near the entrance, and that would be about it. An organization that went as far as establishing a lawn, even if the lawn wasn't particularly well kempt, would be seen as an organization that was really taking its aesthetics very seriously.

Fast forward to today, and we find ourselves in a situation where many organizations are willing to go to very great lengths in what has come to be known as landscaping. You get to know how serious organizations are taking this when you have a glimpse at the amounts of money they are willing to set aside for it. While an olden organization would have considered an investment of a thousand bucks into the maintenance of the flower bed and few shrubs to be extravagant, today's organizations are putting in tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands of dollars, into landscaping every year. It is when you get to learn that the trend where more and more organizations are taking their landscaping very seriously has given rise to a full-fledged million-dollar industry (the corporate landscaping industry) that you start to get an idea of what we are looking at here. It is also when someone awakes you to the fact that on any given day (especially on weekdays), we have hundreds of thousands, possibly even millions, of people all over the world employed in landscaping that you start getting an idea of what we are saying when we talk of landscaping being taken seriously.

This leads us to the question as to why organizations are increasingly willing to take landscaping so seriously.

And as it turns out, the main reason as to why organizations are willing to take landscaping seriously is that they want to create the good impression that they are environmentally conscious entities and that they are therefore responsible corporate citizens.' This is the politically correct image to create, and they know that by being perceived in this way, they significantly increase their chances for corporate success. So they put money and other resources into landscaping.

A little background information would reveal that the world is currently facing an imminent environmental crisis, whose effects are already playing out in some countries. Greening up' our environments, with plants that can absorb carbon (whose abundance is the main cause of this environmental crisis) has been suggested as one of the ways to mitigate the crisis. Subsequently, it has come to be seen that any efforts at greening' are manifestations of good global citizenry, with individuals and organizations that make such greening' efforts being described as responsible citizens of the world. And as it turns out, people and other organizations are usually more willing to do business with such responsible citizens of the world.' That is because this level of responsibility is seen as being a manifestation of other alluring qualities one would be looking for in a business associate.

Inasmuch as being perceived as responsible corporate citizens' would increase their chances of being given projects (or product orders), organizations know that it would be something that can have an impact on what they like to refer to as their bottom-line.' And as we all know, organizations will do just about anything that can improve their bottom-line.
