Why New Homes In Kent Are In Demand

Kent is the 7th most popular place to live in the country

, and as a result, there has been an influx in the development of new homes. Kent is already home to over 1.6 million people and is constantly growing in popularity for families and singles alike.

The county has a particular draw for history buffs. Kent has a rich history of occupation extending through the Bronze Age, Iron Age and Roman era. Julius Caesar called the area Cantium - home of the Cantiaci - in the 5th century. In fact, Kent is where Caesar landed during the first Roman expeditions to Britain. Kent was home to Anne Boleyn, who grew up with her siblings at Hever Castle.

There's a religious attraction to Kent too; in 597 Pope Gregory I appointed the first Archbishop of Canterbury. Augustine became the first bishop in Britain, successfully converting the pagan King to Christianity. It's since become Britain's centre of Christianity.

Current day Kent has provided much inspiration for the arts. The religious nature of Canterbury inspired Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. Charles Dickens' father worked at the Chatham Dockyard, and quite often Dickens featured the scenery in his novels.

Kent's also popular with families with children, because of its outstanding reputation with education. The county has three universities, and it's host to three of the University of Creative Arts campuses. Of the 164 grammar schools in the country, 38 are in Kent. Kent County Council has the largest education department of all local authorities in the UK.

TV presenter and celebrity Carol McGiffin was born in Kent. She says her favourite part of the county is the coast, from Whitstable in the north to Dover. "I love it because it's wild, quaint and stuck in a proper time warp," she told the BBC.

Dartford is the hometown of Sir Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Perhaps the Stones-themed road names will prove an added attraction.
