Why Old Supervisors Should Get New Supervisor Training
One of the most overlooked groups, with regards to training
, is old supervisors. There are many new supervisor training programs, but few for seasoned supervisors. This can be a real disadvantage for a business and also for the experienced supervisor.
The business world is constantly changing and everyone old and new needs to keep up with their training. Sections of new supervisor training may be totally new to even a seasoned supervisor and they can benefit by learning these new skills. Technology has made so many improvements in how we work and how we supervise that it is imperative that all supervisors are trained in these techniques.
Laws and regulations are also constantly changing and sometimes old supervisors get lost in the past and training can help to bring them up to speed with the way laws and regulations are today. People change and so do the ways they relate to one another, what worked in the past with employees may not work now, and by participating in role play scenarios and such, old supervisors can gather the new skills that they need to supervise people today.
It is also a known fact, that people tend to get stuck in their ways. Many times this can happen without the person even realizing it. Sometimes it is tough to break a person from long established habits. New supervisor training programs can help in such situations. It can be a very eye-opening experience for an established supervisor to see the way new people do things.
Getting a group of varied experiences together can promote thinking and by doing so new solutions may be reached for old problems. At times just approaching a problem from a different perspective can cause a solution to pop up that had not before.
Life is about learning. No matter what age a person is, they are always learning something new. Everyone has a need to constantly seek ways to improve themselves regardless of their years of experience. Having seasoned supervisors attend new supervisor training can be a wonderful learning experience for them. It can help them see things in new ways, and they can also be helpful to the newer supervisors as well.
Any type of training can rejuvenate one's interest in their job. It can give someone who is in a kind of rut, a kick and get their energy moving again. Anything a business can do to provide motivation to their supervisors is a good thing. A motivated supervisor has a better chance of motivating their employees and that is always beneficial to a business.
