Why Product Launch Videos Can Ruin Your Business
Why Product Launch Videos Can Ruin Your Business
I run an internet marketing businessfrom home, including a free internet marketing course, and I have a problem with emails that I regularly receive ready to suck away my valuable time. As an internet marketer, I am always intrigued by new ways of working and making money online. As such, I receive a lot of emails from fellow internet marketers telling me of the latest get rich quick system. These take the form of what is commonly known as the product launch video. A product launch video is usually an online introduction to sign up for the next big thing in making money online. They are usually spread over a few days, with a new link to another video each time. Finally on the third or fourth day, it culminates in a big sales pitch.
You see I have a problem with product launch videos. Especially those big product launch videos for the next big internet marketing sensation. You see, I know it is wrong. I know it will consume my valuable time, but I can never resist. It is so easy to be tempted by the offer of free information. A link in the email will take you to a webpage, where apparently you are only seconds from finding out this valuable piece of information. you merely have to just provide your email, and then enter the promise land. Perhaps, more correctly, the land of broken promises.
If I may stretch a metaphor slightly. Mythology says that Mermaids used to lure Sailors and their ships to their deaths on the rocks, attracted by the beautiful singing and by the promise of something magical (and female - albeit a half-fish!). And so it is with these product launch videos, I am lured into the offer of free useful information, the promise of more to come. Once again, I am lured off course. Off the path of what I am meant to be doing. Generating money for my business.
If you run your own business from home, especially an internet marketing style business, and you are anything like me, it is very easy to become distracted by shiny new things. One has to be disciplined, remain focussed, and stick to the path you had planned to sail.
Do not get me wrong, sometimes there is real value in those product launch videos. I recognise they are the lifeblood of many an internet marketing business. But they are often too long, and take far too much time to get to the real meat, and you have to search through a lot of chaff before you find the wheat. I think the issue is that there seem to be so many of them, and all seemingly offering a similar thing - a path to new riches, effortlessly.
But if we just stop and think for a moment. If I had a system that made me a millionaire in a very short period of time, would I just want to give it away for, "Not $1997, Not $997, Not $497 but $37!!". Probably not, unless the whole internet marketing community is truly altruistic. Would I give the secret (and invariably it is not a secret as the information is out there, they have just packaged it conveniently) away if 10,000 people bought it at $37 a pop. Probably, yes. (and once a year repeat, with a few new bells and whistles!).
Look, I am not totally down on all product launches that land in my in-box, and I learn a lot from the presentation styles and approaches, and occasionally, I will admit, there is some good information. No, the problem I have is I get sucked in, and blown of course from what I am meant to be doing. So I have devised a system, "a System which can be yours for $$$ - no, only joking". My system is simple, yes I will watch product launch videos, and sign up for free stuff, especially from those Internet Marketing experts I respect. But I will set aside specific time in the day. Consider it research time. I will collect the offers that land in my email, put them to one side, and then sift through them later. I get on with my main job, and do not get distracted. Then when I am ready - I consume, and to quote St Paul, "read and inwardly digest".
Internet marketing is about process, as you can see my adventures in Social Media Marketing and internet marketing. Find a process that works, stick to it, and repeat. Do not be distracted, factor in time for watching and researching new Product Launches, learn from them. Ask yourself, what is good about them? Do they convince you. This way they will not be a time waster, but time well spent in research and development for your business.
