It's well known that in order to lose weight, you must create a calorie deficit: burn more calories than the number you consume. When your metabolism slows down, your body loses weight more and more slowly until you just can't lose weight anymore because you're burning so few calories. In addition, when you start eating normally again, your metabolism is so slow that you start gaining the weight back!
