As with any clean energy investment there are going to be advantages otherwise we wouldnt invest
. However with advantages there comes disadvantages, and if youre looking to make an environmental investment then you should know about both. Wind energy has been pretty popular recently due to its ease of use and the benefits you get over the other alternatives. Upon reading below you should have a good idea of the different pros and cons of wind energy.
Pros
The first major advantage of electricity generated by wind turbines is that its a renewable energy source which means it cannot be depleted. It depends solely on the wind to convert energy to electricity. There will always be wind it will never run out!
A second advantage is that each year the prices for wind turbines are getting more and more competitive. The competitive nature around the supply means that the prices are lowering and are more accessible.
Since wind energy doesnt pollute it has a key advantage over certain alternatives. The major traditional power sources burn fossil fuels when creating their energy which means carbon dioxide is being released into the atmosphere. As well as this, billions of gallons of water are being saved each year as there is no set process.
From an investment standpoint, wind seems to be a solid investment. Its currently one of the fastest growing renewable energy sources due to the massive expansion seen in foreign countries including China.
Cons
As well as having many advantages there are also some disadvantages in this environmental investment, which wise investors should be aware of before making the decision to invest.
Placement is one of the main disadvantages which goes against the expansion of wind energy. Wind turbines require a specific location that satisfies two main criteria. These criteria are that the wind should be above 10 mph, but as well as that have no obstruction. This means not every location is ideal for wind turbines to be placed. One of the most popular spots is on the coastline and actually in the sea, as there is little obstruction and the wind can flow freely to power the turbines.
A disadvantage which many in the investment field might not even call a disadvantage is the landscape. Having wind turbines everywhere is not going to make the planet look nice; some people view this as sight pollution. Its more annoying to different types of people but shouldnt stop the investments from coming in.
